I admit: the cover of this volume was what first drew my attention to this series, but the premise was the thing that clinched it, and luckily the first volume delivers.
Yes, the story is a bit slow, and the whole "literary convention" was interesting, if somewhat... strange. But the strenght of this story is the mystery behind Tommy's real origin, his dad's disappearance and the organization that seems to control the game. Also, the book within the book, modeled on J.K.Rowling's "Harry Potter", was a great tribute. Still, even though these two stories are what's going to make me come back for more, my favorite part by far was Rudyard Kiplin's story. It was an unexpected surprise. Here's hoping this saga will bring us the points of view of some other classical authors.
