I feel a bit odd writing a review for this book, given that I know Zainab personally. I am happy to write, however, that Zainab is an amazing woman doing amazing things for women (check out her organization Women for Women International) and it's wonderful to have a book telling the story of how she came to be who she is today.

For many of us, we knew Zainab before she could safely tell the story told in this book, so it was QUITE an eye opener when we read it. We were told a much "safer" (MUCH more sanitized in every way imaginable) version of how she came to the US. The true story is much more rich, and everyone is SO fortunate that she found the strength to write this book sharing her childhood, her story of how she came to the US and how she had the strength to overcome all of the obstacles that have been in her path. One small, albeit important, benefit of Sadam Hussein's fall = safety for Zainab to tell her story.

I recommend the book to everyone. A great human story of courage and strength.

Gary Flores Well, it is a book about problems in Iraq and its being distributed in the US. The author works for a ONG that deals with war victims. Maybe, just maybe, the book exaggerates the facts a little bit.
