** spoiler alert ** I thought this book was stronger than the first one.

I wasn't particularly interested in the Lord Stannis/Davos storyline but at least the one God doesn't seem to be a thinly veiled Christian religion.

It's interesting which characters are giving POV chapters. For example, we never see Rob through his own eyes. I'm glad Varys and Balish don't get POV chapters. I think that would make them less interesting.

Daenerys' chapters continue to feel somewhat bland compared to what's happening in the Seven Kingdoms.

I feel really sorry for Tyrion. I think it's pretty clear his role in saving the city is going to be downplayed if not forgotten entirely. So is Cersei's part in nearly losing Kingslanding.

I'm glad Sansa seems to be growing up a little.

I'm really looking forward to the next book.
