This was a very indulgent read for me. It takes place around the time I was born, at the college I attended for graduate school, in the town that I live in now. It is all about the beautiful people and the way they make bad choices and how the only people for them are the mad ones who burn, burn, burn like fabulous yellow roman candles exploding like spiders across the stars (etc). Thanks, privilege, for allowing the wealthy academic set to feel things more deeply than us commoners! But it was a totally fun read anyway--and a damn sight better than your average Emily Giffin book (though it is essentially the same thing only with more l-u-v in semiotics class, more elaborate guilt poverty, more glamorous mental illness, and more ambitious efforts to locate the buried self beneath all that foie gras!). This sentence was my fave: "I was worried that virginity was like getting your ears pierced. If you didn't keep an earring in, the hole might close up."
