A harrowing dreamscape, threatened by war, loss and abandonment. At times funny, but the dark passages held more water for me. The main activity of our hero, after the first WWII story, is a good metaphor for the reading. Looking up as occasional direct flashes of light confuse and disorient you with your back contained against the concrete brick. And then you slip through into another place.
