As a fan of Edgar Allan Poe I was truly looking forward to this novel. I was disappointed. I had a hard time with the time frame of the book - it could have been the future, the past or the present. I also couldn't make a connection to the location of the city. The motives of several of the main characters were unclear and perhaps they will be expanded upon in the sequel. While I usually do not sympathize with the motivations behind the villians characters in a novel, I could not fathom why the Prince is so evil. I kept questioning how could someone be this evil?? And when the leader of the Malcontents is revealed, my thought was 'oh please!'
