Oops, I finished this book last month and forgot to record it. That should give you an idea how memorable it was to me.

I read this book as part of the #nerdbery challenge to read every Newbery Award winner in order. Overall, I am not enjoying the challenge so far, although, the books do provide me with a lens into what the cultural values were at the time the books were written.

This book was boring and spent too much time on the history of Krakow and not enough on the plot.

Bethe reading the Newberys in order also gives an appreciation as to how much children's lit has changed and grown in quality over time, especially in our lifetimes. YA didn't exist when I was that age - went straight from Nancy Drew to Victoria Holt, nothing in between. So much better for the kids today!
