ETA: Thank God for that cover, otherwise I don't know that I would have given this novel a chance. I prefer it strongly over the first with the same main characters, Love Walked In, though I can't imagine being as invested in the characters if you haven't read it (especially Teo, who would have come off rather thin I think...a bit too perfect)...I also love how there is no mention of Teo's first marriage in this novel (perhaps a bit too much to explain there!).

Still, humor can be so hard to do and there are passages that work so well and made me laugh. Piper could so easily have been just a stock character, the uber-Martha of the neighbor, and de los Santos makes her a real person. Her scenes with Elizabeth are the ones that will linger for me when I remember this book.

Also, Dev----not a false note, at least for me. And very grateful that Cornelia had at least a few days of pity-party, this-isn't-the story-I-wanted reaction.

It was the perfect read to help me get my fiction-drive back after the baby. It also seems destined to be a movie someday. I just picture the "viper" scene too well.]]>
