I received this book from a Goodreads First Reads Giveaway (Thanks!)
This was a very interesting book about the weapon that has become synonymous with the word "gun". It tells of how our law enforcement personnel, as well as military groups both here and abroad, were being outgunned by the bad guys, and how they were in need of a new weapon to put them on a more even keel. In early 1980, Gaston Glock, an Austrian toolmaker (who made brass fittings for doors and such from his shop in his garage) overheard lawmakers discussing this need, and he asked if he would be allowed to design this gun. They laughed at him, but gave him the go ahead, and he proceded to invent the most highly regarded pistol in recent history.
It was interesting to see what was involved in the designing of this gun, and how it has been used and somewhat glamorized in TV, film, and music (mostly rap). A very enlightening book.
