a wonderful debut crime novel set in stalinist russia. very well written -- strong pacing, engaging plot. so much better than the average procedural. ripping good fun. and cree. pee.

in the best way it reminded me of the best of robert harris (fatherland, archangel, etc.) but with the tighter prose and more careful world building of, say, michael crichton.
