I have to admit I didn't know what a space opera was when I picked this book up. Basically it just means the story takes place in space, and let me tell you that I loved the worlds Emily created in this book. Well, actually I should say I loved the way Emily described the worlds. I felt like I was there--aboard ships, on other planets. This is one of those stories where the setting is a character in itself. It added to the conflict and hiked up the tension.

The main character is Ella, and she pretty much has no idea who she is. She was taken when she was very young and only really remembers a boy with green eyes. I won't give any spoilers, so I'll just say that she escapes her imprisonment and goes on a journey to uncover her past. This turns into one battle after another where Ella discovers she has amazing abilities. Abilities that both frighten her and make her crave destruction. In trying to remember her past, she'll unlock her future.

This is such a quick read, and it's full of adventure. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
