Lessa's parents are murdered while she is a young girl. She then spends all her energies plotting the downfall of the man who was responsible - to the point where she almost missed her calling when the Dragon-Riders arrived "in search". Luckily for her, Bronze Dragonman F'lar is committed to his search, not prepared to leave any stone unturned in his effort to find a special lady - one with Weyr blood - to be "impressed" by the soon-to-be-born Dragon Queen....

The book uses unusual terms to describe certain things: for instance hyper travel is called "travelling between" and travelling to a different time period (time-travel) is called "Between times".

The author uses many unusual words some of which I never did get to understand fully. Some examples are: "presentiments", "irascibly", "crepuscular" and "dissonance".

In spite of the unusual terms and words, an enjoyable read and I will be looking for Book 2 of the series.
