I loved this book. The story of a Jesuit Priest's search for God is set in the context of a science fiction story about first contact with alien species on a newly discovered planet. The characters are complex, sympathetic and fully developed. The writing was engaging and the use of two story lines (past and present) flowed reasonably well. I found the ending absolutely gripping as the Jesuit Priest, who believes he has found God, suffers his own personal holocaust and has to find a way to reconcile both the beauty and the devastation of his faith. This is a book that will stay with me for awhile.
