This book is great until the last act, which is over-dramatizied and not a bit believable. Paretsky does a wonderful job weaving three eras of Kansas (and American) history where strong contingents on the political right and left are at odds. But she lets her crime fiction instincts take over at the end, essentially ruining a good, borderline great, story.
