it was amazing

The story of Taiping and Hong Xiuquan is the answer to the question, "what if someone with clear psychological issues discovered foreign religious tracts and not only accepted their literal truth but also added his own conditions and realities to form a context for their meanings?"

Temporary insanity may have brought about the Taiping Revolution but, certainly, the age-old excesses of religion, politics, and war sustained it.

A fascinating study masterfully told by Spence...I wouldn't want to spoil the story for anyone not familiar with it. Read it!
