I know that not everyone enjoyed this tale from the Iron Druid series as much as the first two books. Granted, there are some departures from the formula. It is darker, we lose some beloved characters, others are absent for most of the book. But I still believe it's a worthwhile story. The scene around the campfire was beautifully rendered. And I think that the series will be richer in the future, now that these events have occurred. Atticus must move forward, and I'm curious to see how he reacts to the new world he has created for himself.

I listened to Hammered on audio for a second reading, and I must say, it's a fabulous audiobook series. Loved every one of them!

J.M. Hearne, through this series, has practically vaulted onto my list of favorite authors. He's also solely responsible for me deciding to read more urban fantasy this year. I agree with your review; different, but in a good way, and sets the tone for a new direction I'm looking forward to. I like it when writers shake things up with their characters, and Hearne's definitely doing this. Very cool stuff.
