bookshelves: animal-books, the-movie-was-better, read-in-2012
Read from January 31 to February 19, 2012 — I own a copy , read count: 1

Another to add to the shelf of books where I much preferred the movie. Considering the movie and book both came out before I was born and I saw the movie before I'd learned to read there's not a whole lot I could do about reading the book first. Regardless, my reaction to everything for the majority of the book consisted of 'WTF? Where is the shark?' I didn't really know anything about the plot of the book itself when I started reading it so I wasn't expecting so much turncoat human storyline instead of Shark Eating People. I found it kind of dull, and in some ways I was very much repulsed by the human characters in the book. I found that as the pages went on, I didn't like ANY of them. I almost was rooting for the shark just because these people sucked. When Hooper died, I was kind of giddy. It started to feel to me that the shark was added as an afterthought villain, like oh look at all of these people and their screwed up lives blah blah blah SHARK. I wanted the shark to win because someone needed to eat these people for sucking so much. Also the way the shark dies in the book: Infinitely more realistic than the movie, but EXTREMELY anticlimactic.
