it was amazing

Classic Le Carre, as good as many and not far behind the quest for Karla trilogy. Familiar formats but with a modern twist - as the spy service search for things to do to justify their funding following the collapse of the iron curtain. As is typical, the pace is gentle as the scene is set - but every scene and every name are essential, hence I suspect I will have to reread this many times before everything clicks into place. The pace accelerates as the novel progresses and the ending is as surprising as any Le Carre ending. A great tale, with outstanding attention to detail - the depth of Le Carrie's research is astonishing and outstanding.
