I really like the way this author writes. I also read "Wingshooters," which I thought was especially well done, but "Southland" is also excellent. In this book the grandfather of a young Japanese-American woman dies and, while trying to find a person mentioned in his will, his granddaughter discovers that four black teenagers were killed in her grandfather's store during the Watts riots of 1965. With the help of a cousin of one of the victims, she tries to discover what happened that day. Part history, part mystery, part family story--this book was great.
