** spoiler alert ** Wow...thought provoking mystery involving the intense friendship between two boarding school sailing friends...Cal and Jason. Jason's dad walks in on a bit of a compromised situation...Jason and Cal sleeping naked together...neither boy can deal with this and there are tragic results.

Jason is then moved to a new boarding school that gives him a huge new list of problematic issues. Jason is guilt ridden because of the way Cal died. There were hints of a homosexual relationship. These rumors have sort of followed him to this new school. Nothing is ever explicit but Jason feels that people are wondering about him.

He gets involved with a troubled student, Aiden...a girl...who also has issues with her sexual preferences.

My heart was so full of pity for Jason...his parents are estranged, his brother is obnoxious, his new friends are mean and totally hateful...he is pretty much a total mess. He begins to heal as his friendship with Aiden grows but there is a
horribly tragic accident with her, too.
Jason at times can't rise past the mean boy in him and at other times you feel the lost good boy inside who just wants and needs to be shown the path past all of this nastiness.
Tons of hazing and bad boy bullies in this still beautifully well told novel.

Sailing is the sport for these boys and it is told so well that you can feel the sea spray.

Loved this lush and beautiful book.
