I would like to state my conclusion that this work, being published some 18 years after Ellison's death based upon 40 years of rough drafts, has been published out of context and in a state far from completion. Although stated on the cover as "the unfinished second novel," it seems to me that Ellison would have completed much more of it than just merely finish it. Leaving aside all criticism and reflecting on how impressed I was with his first and only complete novel, I suggest that this work has been a victim of circumstance to which I do not hold Ellison accountable.
