liked it

i enjoyed the second in the series as much as the first - always a good sign.

female protagonist who is neither 'quirky' or a cold bitch, whose interesting profession is related to law enforcement, but not yet another LA detective = some stuff that makes a jaded mystery/suspense reader like myself squeal like a girl.

this is not a book i got lost in, however. the pace had some stop-starts happening. some of what happens is uber far-fetched, and the slow-build romance with her parajumper.... felt pretty harlequin-y. ick. moreover, the 3rd book in the series is currently sitting at $20.16 on kindle. wait, what? twenty bucks for an ebook published almost two years ago? not a good way to get someone hooked on the series, that's for sure. and its a sure fire way to get me all worked up and angry at the publishing industry. do you not WANT people to read your books? *under breath grumbling continues off camera...*

all that said, i'll probably read the third. but do it old-school and borrow a hard copy from the library.
