I was moved by this starkly real memoir that fluctuates between expressions of extraordinary love for a new baby and the very dark realities that having a child entails for Lamott. Lamott is not afraid to be afraid, to rage against the challenges that being a single parent results in, and to bare the realities of her previous drug and alcohol addictions that threaten to undermine her confidence as a parent.
