A very details story, no part can be skipped so it takes a long time to read.
No Characters in this book are either likable or totally innocent, but for Dorothy Haze (Lolita) is does end well.
Herbert Humbert lusts after children, but until meeting Lolita, never touches them. He did have a plan to drug and rape the 12 year old orphan, after her mother dies in an accident, but never gets the opportunity to complete this plan. Dolly seduces him (HE ALLOWS IT!!!) and they spend a year on the road him bribing her for sexual favours until, two years later she escapes hi8m. Poor distressed Herbert descends into madness and hunts down the man who 'steals' his 'daughter' from him.

The story gets a little muddled near the end. A disturbing story. Herbert doesn't (Or can't) protect his step-daughter but usues her initial advances as an excuse for his behaivour.
Great tale, dreadful story.
Was it really based on a real story??? I sure hope not.
