Holling Hoodhood is starting 7th grade and his English teacher hates him. He not only has to suffer her glares during English, but also on Wednesday afternoons when all the other students leave early to go to catechism or Hebrew school.

These Wednesday sessions turn from aafternoons full of dull chores into time spent learning to love the words of Shakespeare, trying to catch rats, and perfecting running strides.

Holling's time in school and out of school during 1967 are filled with a blend of hilarious and touching moments reminding us how important it is to have faith in ourselves and loved ones.

I listened to this on CD and my husband was happy when he "had" to take my car somewhere so that he could listen to snippets.
