This seemed more adult than ya. The first chapters concern adults whose love lives were interrupted by war. Clem, a teen, finally appears and falls for Frankie, the daughter of his father's employer. The Cuban missile crisis enters about 2/3 of the way into the novel and seems out of place as it interrupts the narrative. As an adult, I was interested but I wonder if teens would be.

Suzy ** spoiler below **

I can't think of a teen who would read this. I'm sure they are out there but it's a pretty small subset, I think. I'm not sure why this was published as YA. I'm also mightily confused as to what to make of the ending -- it seems like such a 60s moralistic denouement. The poor kids finally get it on and ... whoops. That's what you get for having sex, kids.

Karlan Yes, that aspect occurred to me also but the conclusion was a surprise.
