In order not to lose her home, Brigette has turned it into a Germans only brother. She is sympathetic to the resistance, however, and uses her position to help them, even though the locals look upon her with scorn. When an American pilot is downed, she helps him by contacting her friends in the resistance. A difficult story to assimilate, as one never knows what they would do when faced with similar circumstances. A really good read.
