This book was great. I read it during all of yesterday's study hall. I liked the book because it shows the main character's ability to remain herself while the whole world is pushing against her. In the book, everyone lives on small islands which were the only land left ater the ice caps melted. The islands are surrounded b domes which have projected images of the sky and sun which protect them from the toxic air, ravaging storms, and floods. Everyone is afraid of the ocean and history has been rewritten by someone named the Earth Mother. There are 10 days in a week, 10 hours a day, and there is a 10:00 o'clock curfew All of there history books were written by her and it is illegal to own books. People begin to disappear, including her parents. She is brought to the orphanage at the school, where she conspires with another orphan, who's parents were friends with her's and have also disappeared, to escape to the other side of the island, which is untamed and unprotected. There she finds her parents, and discovers they are rebels called reverse engineers who know that the air is safe and the Earth Mother only wants to control everyone. Her parents, the boy's parents, and their old neighbors destroy a military barracks on their island, and the adults leave to take control of a radio tower that controls the weather forecast, and the pictures shown on the dome. The two children are than left with the librarian at the school, who happens to secretly be the leader of the reverse engineer called the forecaster.
