This is the first book on the American Revolution. Being Welsh, there's never any mention of it during History lessons, so I went into this book knowing ashamedly little about the period, admittedly finishing it very nearly none the wiser!

However, away from my personal knowledge, I really enjoyed the book. At the beginning it was a little slow, but I didn't find I had trouble getting myself to read this section, just noticed afterwards when comparing the tempo from about half-way through onwards. I found it especially interesting as it told the tale from both sides, with likeable characters, and, apart from some of the detestable figures on the American side (Revere and Dudley Saltonstall in particular), I didn't feel that the author was biased in any way, leaving me to chose my own side.
