I tend to mostly enjoy all manner of speculative fiction - stories that have at least some small element of the fantastic in them somewhere, no matter how subtle they may be. So it's not often that I read every-day human drama like this, so it's hard for me to appreciate it as greatly as others may.

That being said, it was a fun read. It follows a twenty-something Spanish-American girl who travels to Mexico City to try to understand her roots, and ends up entangled in a lot more of the darker side of Mexico's culture than she had intended.

The switch from a somewhat bland memoir/self-discovery sort of tale to a tense, dangerous tale was foreshadowed, but the foreshadowing was subtle enough that I was pleasantly surprised when it did happen.
