I really enjoy the way Gladwell writes. I feel like I can visualize the network of ideas--he'll use an example to explain an idea, and then relate the same example to a different idea later in the book. He is very good at showing how all of his ideas are connected, how they work together, and, in Blink, he composes a picture of what our minds do without our consciously knowing.

I had avoided this book initially because I was unfamiliar with his work. The title made it sound like a self-help book, and it very much is not. He touches on many things--first impressions, snap decisions, unrealized communication, etc.--that I'm not sure I'd ever have considered without reading this books.

Gladwell's language is colloquial, and even though he discusses some complex ideas, he communicates them effectively. This shouldn't be a difficult read for joe average reader. And, it is surprisingly interesting. I'm looking forward to his next book, due out in fall 2008.

68340 Did you read The Tipping Point? I really enjoyed both of them, and am excited to hear that he has a new book coming out.

You might also like Six Degrees, by Duncan Watts.

1251276 I did read (well, listen) to The Tipping Point. Then, horribly, at the end of the recording I hear that "this has been an abridged presentation of..." and I thought, "suck." I had abridged recordings. I plan to grab the book and read the whole deal eventually.

Btw, Six Degrees sounds interesting and has been added to my To-reads. Thanks for the rec!
