Having avoided this when it was first published, I decided to give it a try when I heard it had been made into a movie. I concede that Jonathan Safran Foer is a talented writer, and there are a few lovely passages in this book. Unfortunately the protagonist is a pretty unoriginal character (mostly derived from Holden Caulfield)whose reaction to his father's death in the World Trade Center on 9/11, in Safran Foer's hands, is a very standard tearjerker.
