I loved these as a teenager. They are not a bad re-read as an adult either. In fact, they are kind of a refreshing break from age-relevant fiction I read now. The paranormal stuff is relatively straight forward, love is uncomplicated and the romance is young. I like this series (and the Mediator series). The writing is solid with strong first person pov characters. If there are cliches, they are well executed. these books also benefit i think from being written ahead for the most part of the recent spate of ya paranormal romance which all begin to sound so tiresomely the same to me. These are a bit better on the whole then much of what seems to be coming out these days. Perhaps, because they seem to be better grounded in reality? I find when some stuff goes paranormal it goes so in a big way. These books take one element and stick to it and don't complicate things with other powers/people/creatures.
