Another entertaining novel in Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch series. Here is how you know its a good book: reading near the end you wish pages could be added to continue the story.

Harry is working cold cases and is assigned to a puzzler that involves DNA from the blood of an 8 year old child being identified on a young woman who and been raped and killed years ago. But as his investigation starts, he is pulled to work another crime scene, invited into it by his arch nemesis Iriv Irving, who is now on the city council. Irving's son George is dead. Did he commit suicide with a high dive from a building or was he was "dropped", thrown from the building in a murder?

Subplots include Harry's retirement (his placement on the Deferred Retirement Option Plan--DROP) , his relationship with his partner, his daughter's growing up, "high jingo" with the upper power politics of the police department, and a potential love interest.
