Another great mystery starring the irrepressible Agatha Raisin! This is one of those British cozy mysteries that I love. I've followed Agatha's adventures and misadventures for several years. She is a slum-of-Birmingham-born fifty-ish woman who has raised herself up by her bootstraps and who builts up her own successful public relations firm. At the beginning of the series, Agatha decides to finally fulfill her childhood dream of moving to the beautiful Costwolds region of England. But it doesn't end being quite what she thought. She is very much a city girl but she is desperately seeking to become the lady-of-the-manor. She is full of energy, insecurities, humor, weaknesses, strengths, ingenuity, naivete--she is very human and you can relate to her. You laugh at and with her and pity her yet become exasperated that she just keep shooting herself in the foot. On some levels, she reminds me of my own mother who raised herself out of poverty and abuse to become a teacher and mother who broke the cycle of child abuse. She, like Agatha, strove to go up the social ladder with limited success which was frustrating to her. Agatha Raisin books are always very entertaining and take you through the gamut of human emotions and yet leave you with a good feeling at the end and wanting to read the next one!

Elisabeth P. I've read a couple of books in the series and liked them too!

Nathalie S You might like another author G.A.McKevett. Savannah Reid is a private investigator formerly a police officer. She's originally from Georgia and all her siblings have Georgia cities as first names--Savannah, Atlanta, Macon etc. I really like her.
