In his first case as a rookie FBI agent, Alex Cross gets back to a case similar to what made his character famous in Kiss the Girls and Along Came A Spider, pure and simple, money-motivated kidnapping. This time though, a Russian gangster known as The Wolf uses a highly-secure Web chatroom to buy and sell human slaves. When an agreement is reached, some of the Wolf's "associates" kidnap the mark and the exchange is made. When a Federal Judge's wife is one of those "sold," the FBI becomes involved and the chase begins. These are the sorts of books that I learned to love early on from Patterson and I am so glad he has returned to his old ways. Very good, old fashioned, good guy/bad guy thriller with the requisite Patterson twists but nothing too unbelievable as some of his novels were starting to feel lately.
