I couldn't put this book down - almost literally :) I found the story to be interesting, intriguing and thought provoking. I thought the pacing was perfect. I really liked the way the story was told and the unfolding of events: mostly through Alice's story but with additional information through Elisabeth's journal and Frannie's letters. I quite liked the characters. I cried with Elisabeth near the end. I was glad for the story resolutions and would have been disappointed if they had gone another way. I loved the insights into who these people really were.

There were quite a lot of "f" words that appeared in clusters with one character; they were gone about 2/3 or 3/4 of the way through the book. Without all of those I might have given the book 5 stars. There are difficult topics that are covered, but I thought they were handled well. Nothing else was offensive to me.
