Read from December 20 to 22, 2011

This novel about Joan of Arc is split into five parts; part one is when she first began hearing voices, part two is her building the army; part three tells about her battles; part four is about her decline; and part five is her trial and execution.

The book was very dry. There wasn't a lot of character development, only shifting from one scene to another, without really showing character traits. You're introduced to a lot of characters, and often I had to go back to figure out who was this person they were talking about.

It was interesting as a timeline history of Joan of Arc, from the time she was twelve until she was eighteen and captured by the English. I didn't know much about her; although I wouldn't say that this book necessarily gave me a lot of new information beyond the basics that I already knew.

It was not as interesting and insightful as I hoped it would be. It was hard for me to get through it.
