Great book! Every chapter provides new insights into al-Zawahari and Osama Bin Laden and their strange path to world prominence. Well researched and written. The insights into the recent history of Egypt and Saudi Arabia make the book worth reading!
The book is not politically slanted and provides good insight on how even after 9/11, America has little understanding of how a significant portion of the Islamic world sees our country.
Although it covered over 50 years, the book focuses on some key individuals including an FBI Agent, John O'Neil. O'Neil was one of the first people to recognize the danger that Osama Bin Laden posed to the U.S. O'Neil retired before 9/11 and died in the WTC attacks. O'Nell was no Boy Scout, but he was dedicated to fighting a threat that few people even today appreciate. Before he died he wrote this to his infant grandson, " You have been born in the greatest country in the world. It is well to learn the ethnic backgrounds of your parents, to love and cherish the ancient folklore. But never, never forget, you are an American first. And millions of Americans before you have fought for your freedom. The Nation holds all the terms of our endearment. Support, defend, and honor those whose duty it is to keep it safe." His son read it at his funeral service - over 1000 mourner attended.
