This book has several features that I would normally consider negatives:

1. scaryish pectorals on cover dude
2. plot that heavily relies on selective amnesia
3. not a particularly interesting heroine -- she is one of those heroines who is extremely beautiful and a very good person
4. quite serious tone, minimal funny banter
5. obvious twist

But despite these strikes against it, I liked it a lot. Great pacing, solid writing, and Dreyer did a good job with "love making" scenes. If you are into Napoleonic wars and historical research, this has more than the usual level of details about battles and uniforms and whatever. Have checked out the next one, which I'm excited about because the heroine is a 6 foot tall horse-faced girl with a limp. THAT IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.
