Man Seeks God: My Flirtations with the Divine
by Eric Weiner
by Eric Weiner
When a health scare lands him in the hospital for a couple weeks one of his nurses asks him if he has found his God yet. Eric was raised a non-observant Jew, and had fallen away from the few traditions he did practice. After his experience in the hospital Eric decided to search for a faith that would strike a chord with him by immersing himself in 8 different faiths for a period of time. Some were sects of mainstream religions (Sufism of Islam, Kabbalah of Judaism, and Buddhism) and some were not so mainstream. The Raelians make for an interesting chapter.
Perhaps it is Eric Weiner's writing style, or his quirky observations, or the fact that he incorporates travel and interesting experience in his books, but I find them to be highly enjoyable. Man Seeks God is an excellent follow up to his first book, The Geography of Bliss. Intelligent, informative and entertaining. I look forward to his next foray into the world.
