Jack Kennedy: Elusive Hero
by Chris Matthews
by Chris Matthews
Chris Matthews has written the best biography I have read in a long time, and that includes McCullough's John Adams. At the heart of this book Matthews attempts to solve the enigma that was John F. Kennedy by deconstructing the public image he carefully construted for the public. In that process, as the layers of Kennedy begin to shed, and hint at a deep, complex, unattainable core at the same time we reconstruct our own personal icon. Indeed, we will never truly understand who JFK, or anyone, truly was; as Matthews recognizes in his last chapter about JFK's legacy.
This was a delightful and engaging read. I got the book last Friday and have had a hard time putting it down, and I'm a law student in the thick of finals! Well done Christ Matthews!
