This is no Hunger Games
This book is more like 3.5 stars.
It's not bad, the set-up is good, but the ending feels rushed. The love story is unrealistic. Not that the guy would like her but that just her looks and her occasional quip would cause an instant "fall in love" scenario for our supposedly manly hero.
Overall the longer I think on this book the less satisfied I am. And not in a cliffhanger sort of way but in a 'not sure' what to think way.
This may be the least helpful review ever, I realize. But the reality is that I think some people may love this book and others will feel disappointed at the end. The question is do you mind an over the top "unrealistic" love story propped up in an interesting and intriguing world. If you can get over the love story you will likely enjoy this.
For me, I'm annoyed that another teen novel sets a bad example for girls to expect some amazing, prestigious and older man to fall in love with them. No wonder we are a society of self image issues.
