My favorite YA novel of the year so far. It pulls every single heartstring and makes you glad it did. I really did laugh and cry, and sometimes both at once. Completely over the top, and yet somehow utterly believable.

This novel reminded me of the movie "Love, Actually." It involves numerous "couples," an young abandoned boy who is deaf, a deceased mother, and a series of other, as GraceAnne says, "over the top, and yet somehow utterly believable characters." Unlike many YAs, the parents in this novel are not only present but delightfully integral to the plot.
We all know how harsh life can be. This novel shows the other side, the one usually overlooked by the media. Also highly recommended for those who liked "Boy Meets Boy," which features, to my mind, the same kind of essential lovingkindness and hope.
