I like this story, but the style of writing that started as a cool quirky gimmick is now totally annoying.
I know is is a children's book, but the way the narrator keeps interrupting to explain the meaning of some on the more complex words or expressions, sometimes with a meaning that isn't that accurate, and often has difficult words in itself is off-putting.

As far as the story goes is just other installment of the series, it's kind of predictable but I don't see that as a con in this book, this is the reason why I read this series. I know that the children will get to some place, Count Olaf will appear in some disguise and make their lives miserable. (in this case their caretaker also helped making their lives miserable (view spoiler)). Nobody believes the Children and in the end they read some books invent something and destroy Count Olaf's plan.
