In this story an African American family from Flint, Michigan sets off on a trip to visit their grandmother in Alabama where the parents hope to straighten out their thirteen year old “delinquent” son. Told from the perspective of ten year old Kenny, the Watson family’s experiences are often humorous and at times sad. I loved this book! This multithemed story contains memorable characters, authentic dialogue, and humor. I found this book to be high quality literature that most young adults and adults alike can relate to.
