My choice for transitional book is Ivy and Bean book one. This is by Annie Barrows and illustrated by Sophie Blackall. This book is about two neighbors, Ivy and Bean, who do not want to play with each other, but wind up talking because of a trick Bean is playing on her sister Nancy. Ivy wants to become a witch,so Bean helps her make a wand. The two girls also band together over how to get back at her older sister for getting Bean in trouble. The book is a small chapter book with the chapters being as short as six pages and as long as twelve pages. There are also illustrations that are black adn white that are in the book to show settings and the characters. This is a book especially good for girls to show how friendship grows, and especially for those in second grade.
