A well-meaning if clumsy attempt to fictionalize the plight of victims of human trafficking, this novel follows the fortunes of beautiful Gabriela, abducted from a street in Manila and sent to Kuala Lumpur. Fortunately, the worst doesn't happen, as she is being groomed for the harem of the wealthy brothel owner in Hong Kong. Things work out better for Gabriela and her friends than you can imagine, due to a fairy-tale ending that sadly does not reflect the real fate of women in her situation.
