This is a Lord John novel, so it’s got fewer characters and plots to keep track of than in Gabaldon’s Outlander novels. But this novel is about Lord John’s experiences with Jamie when he was at Helwater. And when Lord John’s brother the Duke of Pardloe asks Jamie to accompany Lord John to Ireland to find a treasonous Army officer, they go. Some Irish, including people Jamie knew in the Rising, are trying to draft Jamie and others to unseat King George II and replace him with Bonnie Prince Charlie. Jamie wants nothing of it. I quite enjoyed this, as I always do.
