I enjoyed the book and I liked the characters a lot. I'm not from the south, but I grew up in (and moved away from) a small town much like this one. My gay friends there are just about as in the closet as Chuck is here. I didn't like that he kept Gary at arm's length and a secret, but I could understand it.

The cover is a bit deceiving, since it looks like the guys are very young, which doesn't really interest me. Fortunately, Gary is 30 and Chuck is ln his late thirties. The music/blugrass scene in the town was well-developed and provided a great backdrop for Gary to learn to trust someone again and overcome his stage fright.

I also felt that the end of the book was just the start of the real relationship between the two men. I would enjoy reading a sequel where they work on building a real family and continue making music together.
